‘Let’s go see the lights on the lake,’ is something you could hear at the end of July when a traditional event called Bled Days takes place at Lake Bled.
By saying that, the locals have in mind thousands of eggshells with little candles inside them all lit up, floating on the lake surface.
Those ’little lights’ that illuminate the lake each year are being put on the lake’s surface by volunteers in the boats when it starts to get dark.
The lights made of eggshells are a creation of a local man who receives the eggshells from a café and sweet shop that is located close to the lake.
Putting the artistically recycled lights on the lake’s surface on Saturday evening represents the height of Bled Days that last three days.
During that time, visitors of Bled Days can also try some local specialties – like posmodulja (bread with garlic and cheese), buy local crafts and attend music concerts.
We visited Bled Days on Saturday evening when the Lakeside Promenade and the Spa Park bustled with people, waiting for the lights to appear on the lake.
